Scenic county Wicklow is only an hours drive from Dublin, and always worth the trip. Steeped in history, you can walk around the magnificent Powerscourt House and its world famous gardens before taking the breathtaking drive along the Sally Gap ( including Glenmacnass waterfall), and on into the ancient monastic site of Glendalough. This is a National Heritage site including interpretive centre.
The county also boasts many beautiful unspoilt lakes and forests, along with a pristine coastline.
